Rule A.5: Active Voice

TLR prefers the active to the passive voice.

YES:	All members of TLR loved cite checks.
NO:	Cite checks were loved by all members of TLR.

However, per CMOS 5.118, passive voice may be appropriate to highlight a preferred viewpoint and TLR defers to an author’s preference

YES:	The woman was deported.
